[ He doesn't dwell on the change in tone, just moves forward in his own even intonation. ]
Due to his alternate history, the current version of Lord Vorkosigan was in possession of a high-quality anti-inflammatory medication that would be of great benefit to the Lord Vorkosigan of which we are more familiar. However, due to the manner of his arrival here, it is uncertain if this medication will return with him to his originating reality, if he does indeed return at all.
With this uncertain deadline in mind, I have been tasked with replicating and producing increased quantities of this medication as soon as possible. To do so, I would require [ a fairly extensive list of specific medical equipment, which Spock lists in most expensive first and in decreasing amounts the longer he goes on. ] I would also require the raw materials to reproduce the medication, and while the specific ingredients are yet unknown, I can provide a list of common anti-inflammatory pharmaceuticals that are statistically likely to be present.
[ On the one hand: his business sense demands a cost-benefit analysis of this proposed project. An anti-inflammatory is not necessarily automatically marketable, particularly if it's just one that's useful for Miles' idiosyncratic condition. And it might not even be something that doesn't exist here, and they'll have sunk an enormous investment into something that won't even help them turn a profit. And getting that equipment in a hurry is probably going to cost quite a premium. But...
But it's Miles.
So after a moment: ]
Write up the list. I'll try to source as much as possible through my contacts, who'll give me a better price. The rest, I'll authorize the funds for you to purchase.
[ She has apologies to make, ok, so he's another person getting an awkward voicemail. ]
So, Mark. Hi. Hawke here. [ She's bad at these. Give her a second. ] I just wanted to let you know I'm not... that... anymore. I'm sorry. I'm fairly certain I was rude to you and you didn't deserve it. Just thought you might want to know.
[ A fancy package arrives for Mark with an attached envelope sealed by a wax mockingbird sigil. The letter itself is penned in fancy cursive: ]
I am not quite certain how I should address you, so for the sake of not causing discomfort, I will leave that up to you to tell me when next we speak. I merely wish to thank you for your advice early on in the race and your intended support. I realize things were difficult for you, and should you need anything from me, I would be more than happy to provide.
I do hope you will still consider supporting me in this upcoming election. And please enjoy my gift in the meantime (I went with chocolate as you had suggested).
You shouldn't shrug so much. [ Because, yeah, that was an audible shrug. She can picture it clearly. ] And too late. I already did. There are no take-backs for sorry.
[ Mark thinks, privately, that after everything he's done, he really doesn't have the right to get angry at just about anyone. But, hey, if Hawke isn't thinking that, he's not going to encourage her to do so. ]
